Currently Available Scholarships  

 

Approximately 200 scholarships are awarded each year from funds administered by Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation.  Some of these scholarships are targeted for applicants meeting very specific criteria.  

 

Are you a graduating high school senior?  

If you are a graduating high school senior, scholarship applications are available between late January and late February each year through high school counselors in our region.

If you have graduated from high school and are looking to further your education, scroll down to view currently available scholarships.  The largest share of scholarship applications for students in college are available between late January and late February each year.

 

We are pleased to announce that application forms are available for the following scholarships with specific eligibility criteria.

 

John Russell Applegate Scholarships for Teachers 

Applicants must be residents of one of the following counties in West Central Nebraska: Custer, Dawson, Frontier, Hayes, Hooker, Keith, Lincoln, Logan, McPherson, Perkins and Thomas.  Applicants must be either: a)  a current education major at college junior or senior level pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree in Education, or b) a current teacher pursuing additional postsecondary education leading to an endorsement or a Master’s Degree in Education with emphasis in one or more of the following areas: Reading, Mathematics, Science, Career Technical Education, Special Education, Speech Pathology, School Psychologist, World Languages, Language Arts, Music or Middle School endorsement.  Scholarship recipients may apply again for another scholarship in the future for possible selection from among all applicants.  

Typically around 9 scholarships with a maximum of $3,000 each will be awarded each spring.

Next application deadline is March 3, 2021.  

 

JOE AND DOROTHY CONGER “HANDY-ONE” SCHOLARSHIP 

Applicants must be going into second semester or second year of studying building and/or home maintenance vocational skills at North Platte Community College.  Must be a US citizen and reside in Lincoln County or adjoining county in Nebraska.  Applicants must have a grade point average of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale for most recent school year.  Must demonstrate moderate to substantial financial need.  One scholarship of $1,200 will be awarded this fall.

JOE AND DOROTHY CONGER SINGLE MOM SCHOLARSHIP

Students currently attending North Platte Community College with a course load of at least 12 credit hours.  Applicants must be a single mother caring for one or more of her minor children.  Must be a US citizen and reside in Lincoln County or adjoining county in Nebraska.  Applicants must be at least 19 years old.  Must demonstrate moderate to substantial financial need.  One scholarship of $1,400 will be awarded for the coming school year.

AMERICAN LEGION POST 163 SCHOLARSHIP

Must be a residents of Lincoln, Custer, Dawson, Frontier, Hayes, Hooker, Keith, Logan, McPherson, Perkins or Thomas.  Applicants must be a veteran of the armed forces or a member of the armed forces reserves or a member of the National Guard or who has been honorably discharged from such armed service and who intends to pursue postsecondary education.

One scholarship of $1,050 will be awarded for the coming school year.

EAGLES CLUB – BOB SPADY SCHOLARSHIP

Applicant must be a graduating senior from any high school in Lincoln County and must intend to pursue a career in the automotive industry.

One $600 scholarship will be awarded for the coming school year.

NORTH PLATTE KIWANIS NEBRASKA COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

Graduate of North Platte High School or St. Patrick High School, both in North Platte, who will be a college sophomore, junior or senior in coming school year.  Applicant must have maintained passing grades and must demonstrate a record of volunteer activities.

Three $500 scholarships will be awarded for the coming school year.

RILEY DOLAN EMT & FIREFIGHTING SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must be resident of Lincoln County in Nebraska and a high school graduate or have earned a GED.

Applicants must have a valid driver’s license with the intend to study to be an EMT or firefighter in a volunteer or employed capacity.

One $500 scholarship is available to be awarded for the coming school year.

SUTHERLAND NEW HOPE VILLAGE SCHOLARSHIP

Applicant must be at least a college junior, senior or graduate student in the coming school year and must have a home address in the Nebraska counties of Arthur, Custer, Dawson, Frontier, Grant, Hayes, Hooker, Keith, Lincoln, Logan, McPherson or Perkins.  Applicant must be majoring in special education of mentally or physically handicapped children, or speech therapy, or seeking an endorsement in these areas.

One or two scholarship awards totaling $1,100 will be available for the coming school year.

JOHN AND JERRY WING ALEXANDER COMMUNICATIONS SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must be a graduates or graduating seniors from any accredited high school in North Platte, Nebraska, as well as current students or former students of North Platte Community College and must be good scholars with excellent grades and good potential for success.  Applicants must be entering a field of communications, such as broadcasting, journalism, public relations, advertising, computer communications fields or other communication fields as they develop and  must demonstrate financial need.

Several scholarships will be awarded.  Each scholarship typically is approximately $1,000 and

CATTLEWOMEN BEEF LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP

Students who are a college freshman or above at a U.S. college or university including post-graduate students are eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must be a residents of one of the following Nebraska counties: Lincoln, Custer, Dawson, Frontier, Hayes, Hooker, Keith, Logan, McPherson, Perkins or Thomas.  Students must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in each of the three most recent complete or partial (of at least a semester) school years and must demonstrate experience working with cattle, including 4-H, FFA or similar activities.  Applicants must plan to have a career in a beef-related field and must plan to study in a college or university beef-related program.

One $1,500 scholarship is available to be awarded for the coming school year.

RAY AND MARGARET CAROTHERS GRIFFITH SCHOLARSHIP

Applicant must be a prior graduate of North Platte High School and completed at least one semester of college.  Applicant must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in college.

One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded

BRAD TROYER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must be a graduating seniors of a high school located in Lincoln County or high school graduates who reside in Lincoln County and must intend to study welding.

One $1,000 scholarship is available to be awarded for the coming school year.

NEBRASKALAND FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP

Applicant must be a resident of Lincoln County, Nebraska and must be a graduating high school senior or a student in college.  Applicant must be majoring in or intending to major in family and consumer science at an accredited U.S. four-year college or university or at an accredited U.S. two-year college with the intent to transfer to a 4-year college or university. (The following subject fields are included in family and consumer science: dietetics and nutrition, interior design, human development and the family, family and consumer science education and teaching, child development, fashion merchandising, textiles, clothing and design, extension education, food science and related fields.)

One scholarship award of $500 will be awarded for the coming school year.
